PARSHAS Acharei Mos 5784

All On One Leg

Director of Impact

  • In this week's Parsha reading, Parshas Ekev, it begins with a promise from Hashem that if we heed His commandments and the laws of the Torah, He will provide for us all the kindness that He foretold to our forefathers. An inquisitive eye would be curious about the Torah's choice of the word "Ekev." The Torah could have left out the word. It doesn't add any information on the surface level. Yet Rashi, the foremost commentary on the Torah, notes that the word "Ekev" means a heel. Hashem used this specific word to refer to the "smaller" Mitzvos, the ones people tend to "step on" with their heels. The Mitzvos that get overlooked, or are performed without giving them much significance. This is a tremendous lesson: If we value and pay attention to these small, everyday actions, the long-term impact is absolutely beyond measure. This is the promise Hashem gave us in this week's Parsha. This week we launched our JOIN Monthly campaign, and looking back at this week, my heart is filled with tremendous gratitude. Seeing so many of our friends, family, and community members step up to partner with us has been deeply inspiring. But what really moves me is how many people chose to become monthly partners. That monthly support is the ultimate illustration of the lesson of "small actions." The constant, stable, reliable dedication of continued steps is what builds the foundation of the future of the Jewish community here in Orlando. To everyone who has already participated and partnered with us to leave a lasting impression on the next generation, thank you. It is a true zechus/merit to work alongside you in this endeavor. And for those who haven't joined us yet, the invitation is always open to be a part of this incredible journey! Wishing you all a beautiful and uplifting Shabbos!
